Warranty provisions for household product purchases in Norway

1. The Provision’s Scope
These warranty provisions govern the consumer’s rights to the supplier for the purchase of all types of household appliances for private use in Norway.

2. The warranty period is 2 – two – years from the date the consumer took over the product. Conditions not covered by the warranty are described in section 7. After the expiration of the warranty period, the Consumer Procurement Act’s claim deadlines will continue to apply, cf. Section 4, second paragraph.

3. The supplier is obliged to rectify a defect that may arise within the warranty / claim period, under the terms described in the following paragraphs. The supplier reserves the right to check if there is in fact a defect present. If no defect is found, the consumer must pay for the investigation and repair. The consumer must be informed in advance that he must cover such costs.

4. The consumer is obliged to make a claim within a reasonable time after the defect was discovered or should have been discovered. The claim must be made no later than two months after the defect was discovered. A claim must be made no later than 2 years after the consumer has taken over the product. If the item or parts of it are intended to last substantially longer, the absolute deadline for claims under the provisions of the Consumer Procurement Act is 5 years.

5. The supplier is obliged to rectify a defect at the consumer’s premises or at a designated workshop according to the following guidelines. Unless otherwise stated below, the supplier pays the cost of the repair. a) Defect remediation performed at the consumer’s home: Such remediation will apply to products that cannot be transported by the consumer without significant inconvenience or costs, and which are sold and are still located in the natural sales district. A natural sales district refers to a distance of up to 20 km from the point of sale (shop). If the distance is greater, but the retailer is the closest to the consumer, the supplier will still cover the travel costs. The consumer is obliged to make the product readily available to the person who is to perform the defect remediation. The obligation to perform free-of-charge defect remediation does not apply if this results in unreasonable costs for the supplier. Unreasonable costs may relate to remediation and / or if the product cannot be accessed by regular means of transportation, via public roads and the like. Such additional costs may be covered by the consumer himself. b) Defect remediation performed at a workshop: Products that the consumer can personally and without significant inconvenience pick up and transport are delivered to the designated workshop / delivery point. Products that cannot be transported by the consumer without significant inconvenience or costs, but which still need to be repaired at the workshop shall, in the absence of another agreement, be transported in the most reasonable manner and at the supplier’s expense. The product must be properly packaged.

6. The consumer cannot make claims if the defect or failure is a consequence of:

a) Installations that have not been performed in accordance with public regulations or are contrary to the accompanying installation / operating instructions of the product.
b) Inadequate maintenance, handling that violates the installation / operating instructions or other unreasonable handling.
c) Intrusions or repairs performed by an unauthorised repairer and / or the use of non-genuine spare parts / accessories.
