For your kitchen hood to function optimally, it needs a good cleaning now and then – just like an oven, a refrigerator, or yourself. A good rule of thumb is to clean the grease filters in the kitchen hood once a month.
Most RørosHetta hoods have a cleaning indicator for the grease filters, which notifies you if you forget. On our SENSE hoods, the “Auto” sensor will light up orange when it’s time to clean the grease filter.
The AUTO sensor flashes orange when it is time to clean the grease filters.
The efficient operation of your kitchen hood depends on keeping the grease filters clean and replacing the carbon filters at the recommended time. Clean grease filters also reduce the risk of fires in the ventilation ducts caused by unnecessary grease buildup.
With regular cleaning, your kitchen hood will stay in top shape and contribute to a better indoor climate – simple and effective!
Take care of the grease filter
The grease filter should be cleaned once a month under normal use. Over time, the filter may weaken, but it usually does not need to be replaced until after 4–5 years, depending on the quality of the hood.
How to clean it:
- Soak the filter in warm soapy water to loosen grease and dirt, then wash it in the dishwasher at a maximum of 50 degrees Celsius.
- Grease ignites easily – regular cleaning prevents large grease accumulations that could pose a fire hazard in the ventilation ducts.
A clogged grease filter reduces the efficiency of the hood and can cause grease to spread further into the ventilation ducts. Proper maintenance of the grease filter is therefore essential for both safety and functionality.

This is what the cleaning alert will look like in our SENSE app.
But what about the carbon filter?
Carbon filters, Long-Life filters and Monoblock filters are used for recirculating ventilation and should be replaced at the recommended time. Anywhere between 4 months to 900 hours of use. If the carbon filter is not replaced in time, its efficiency will be reduced, which can lead to poor air quality in your home. Some carbon filters can be washed or regenerated – check the product instructions for details.
To ensure the carbon filter works optimally, it is crucial to clean the grease filter regularly. A clean grease filter enhances the efficiency of the carbon filter and can extend its lifespan. Using original carbon filters tailored to your hood is recommended for the best results.
