The kitchen hood is an essential part of the kitchen, but it operates in an environment that easily becomes greasy and stained. This is especially true after the holidays, when increased cooking and grease exposure put extra strain on the product.

Maintaining your kitchen hood is crucial to preserving both its functionality and appearance. A thorough cleaning after the busy holiday season could benefit both you and your kitchen’s health. If you happen to get a stain or scratch on your hood, there are solutions available to help.

Here are our best tips and advice for how to care for and maintain your range hood.

Regular Cleaning

To keep your kitchen hood clean and in good condition, it should be cleaned regularly. Use a damp cloth and mild soapy water. It’s important to remove grease as soon as possible, as it becomes harder to clean over time. Grease can also cause unpleasant odors and reduce the efficiency of the hood.

Avoid using microfiber cloths on high-gloss metal surfaces, as they can cause small scratches.

Most grease filters from RørosHetta can be cleaned in the dishwasher. Soak them in warm water and then wash at 50 degrees.

Remember to Replace the Charcoal Filter

Our charcoal filters have a lifespan ranging from 4 months to up to 4–5 years. If it’s been a while since your last replacement, now might be a good time to do so.

Treating Metal Surfaces

Our range hoods with high-gloss metal surfaces are treated with an anti-fingerprint coating to enhance durability and prevent grease stains from sticking to the hood. For brushed metals, it’s beneficial to use impregnating agents after cleaning. This adds an extra layer of protection and can help extend the lifespan and appearance of the hood.

Dealing with Scratches

If your range hood gets scratched, touch-up paint can be a good solution. To find the right colour, we recommend taking a photo of the label inside the grease filter. The label contains a serial number that makes it easier for us to identify the correct colour for you.

Replacing the Ventilator and Duct

If you decide to replace your kitchen hood, we strongly recommend replacing the duct connected to the ventilator as well. Over time, a significant amount of grease accumulates in the duct, which can be both a fire hazard and unhygienic.

A new duct ensures safer and more efficient ventilation while contributing to a healthier kitchen environment.

Our ducts are available in diameters of 120 or 150 mm and fit all our range hoods. Not sure which one you need?

Warranty and Peace of Mind

We offer a 5-year warranty on our kitchen hoods.
The warranty provides you extra security should any faults or issues arise with the product. Remember that proper maintenance extends the life of your hood and helps ensure it operates optimally throughout the warranty period – and beyond.

By following these tips, you can keep your range hood clean, attractive, and functional for many years to come. A well-maintained range hood not only improves indoor air quality but also enhances the overall impression of your kitchen.
